Seedy Saturday 2018

Seedy Saturday 2018 is coming up soon!

The 17th annual Winnipeg Seedy Saturday will be held on February 10th from 10am-3pm at Canadian Mennonite University (500 Shaftesbury Blvd, in the Great Hall). Entrance will be by donation. This collaborative event put on by Seeds of Diversity Canada, Winnipeg Community Garden Network, The Friends of Gardens Manitoba, USC Canada, and Canadian Mennonite University  is one of hundreds of similar events taking place across Canada every spring.

It may be cold now, but spring is just around the corner and for gardeners that means the beginning of a new season of planning, planting, tending, harvesting, and preserving. While there is much to think about, it all begins with a seed.

Regardless of whether you are a farmer, avid gardener, less-than-mediocre plant tender, or just interested in food security, this gathering is for you! Heritage, local, and open-pollinated seed varieties will be available for sale or trade and free workshops throughout the afternoon will provide a chance to gain skills and knowledge around seed saving and growing on the prairies.

Seedy Saturday’s workshop schedule is as follows:

10:30 – Seed Saving 101

11:30 –  Lyndsey Sable of Broken Forest Floriculture & Prairie Garden

12:30 – Special Preview screening of “From Seed to Seed” into by director/producer Katharina Stieffenhofer

1:30 – Panel Discussion by Jane Rabinowicz and others on seed sovereingty projects in Canada

A seed swap table, seed saving and gardening information fair, and children’s activities will be available all day.
